Morbidly Curious is Available for Pre-order
It's currently #1 in Amazon's evolutionary psychology New Releases.
My new book, Morbidly Curious: A Scientist Explains Why We Can’t Look Away is now available for pre-order from almost anywhere you buy books.
The absolute best thing anyone can do for an author is to pre-order their book. Pre-order sales determine the trajectory of a new release. Since so many of you have been following this Substack over the past 2 years, I’d like to offer something in return.
If you pre-order my book, simply take a screenshot of the pre-order confirmation and email it to MorbidlyCuriousBook@gmail.com to receive a free 3 month subscription to the paid version of my Substack.
This will unlock my entire catalogue of posts, including popular ones like:
Why true crime is so popular (especially among women)
and many more.
Morbidly Curious will be released as a Paperback Original by Penguin Books. This was done in part to keep the cost reasonable. So many new hardbacks are $30 or more. While that can be a good investment, it was important to me that my book was affordable. You’ll be able to pick up a brand new copy of Morbidly Curious for only $19.
With a release date of October 7, 2025, it would make a great Christmas gift (or Halloween gift, if you celebrate that like I do).
From the back of the galley:
I was also happy to see today that it’s currently sitting as the #1 New Release on Amazon in evolutionary psychology, and #13 in evolutionary psychology bestsellers. These lists are fickle, and will no doubt change over the next 6 months leading up to the release date, but that was a nice surprise.
While the book isn’t strictly evolutionary psychology, that’s definitely one of the underlying themes. It’s a blend of evolutionary biology, psychology, and anthropology, which probably makes sense given that my background spans those disciplines.
If you’ve enjoyed any of the posts I’ve written on my Substack, you’ll definitely enjoy Morbidly Curious. It’s a culmination of years of my thinking and research on the topic. If you’ve been a subscriber for a while, you’ll recognize some stuff from my Substack, but most of what you’ll read is brand new. I haven’t written about much of it anywhere else.
I’ve been saving the best stuff for this book. Please share it with any morbidly curious people in your life.
As a teaser, here’s the Table of Contents. This is from pre-proofs, so you can ignore the page numbers. The book will be 272 pages.
Nice! How different is it from the drafts I read a while back. I’m ordering regardless and looking forward to reading the final product!
